Gun Violence in America
Hillary Clinton has always been a strong advocate for gun control. She wants to strengthen background checks and close loopholes that allow for unrestricted gun sales. She also wants to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, domestic abusers, and terrorist. Hillary also believes that gun dealers and manufacturers be held accountable. These views aren’t radical, they are common sense solutions.
How many more innocent lives have to be lost before we actually get something accomplished regarding gun control? The statistics are staggering. In the United States 33.000 people, our children, our friends, our neighbors, our family members, die every year from gun violence. There are 11,294 people murdered, and another 75,000 people are injured by guns each year. Today, ‘1 out of 3 homes with kids have guns and nearly 1.7 million children live in a home with an unlocked loaded gun.’ With this many guns unsecured in homes, our children don’t have a chance. ‘This means nearly 48 youth are shot every day, including 7 fatalities’ (Brady Campaign). There are 20,000 people who kill themselves, over 400 killed by the police, and a child in The United States is more than 11 times more likely to be killed by a gun than other high income countries. This should be unacceptable in today’s society.
We have put gun legislation off long enough. This election is key, to finally passing common sense gun control. We need a strong advocate, not a one note song, in the White House. That’s why we need to make sure Hillary Clinton is elected President of the United States.
Yesterday Jane Sanders, the wife of Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders, accused Clinton of “politicizing” Erica’s mother’s murder. Erica Smegielski, knows about gun violence, she has experienced first hand. Erica was offended, and took to twitter to express how she felt about it. “@janeosanders -offended that you are saying @HillaryClinton is politicizing my mothers murder, have lunch with me? Would love to talk truth.” Let see how Jane Sander will respond.
