In 2008 there was a Democratic faction calling themselves the PUMAs. I’m sure some of you remember. Hell, I’m sure some of you were among them. They staunchly supported Hillary Clinton and were irate when she lost the nomination. Many vowed to sit out for the general; some came around eventually, and others made good on that spiteful promise.
The past is the past; I’m not here to rehash it.
Today, however, now that Barack Obama has appointed 2 Supreme Court Justices and is poised to select a 3rd, I suspect the '08 dead-enders are thanking their lucky stars that President McCain never got the chance to make these decisions. I suspect they don’t want to know the rulings a 7-3 conservative court would make anymore than I do. I suspect they’re glad we aren’t still surging away in Iraq too.
I know that whomever wins, the amazing candidates we have will not hesitate for a second to come together and campaign like hell for eachother. May the base in 2016 absorb that wisdom. If we do not pull together in the end, we may not be as lucky as we were in 2008. May the best candidate win, but even more significantly when the primaries are done: may the best party win. And may we all do everything we can to see to it.
