In a poll released Tuesday by Monmouth University,  Hillary Clinton is up by 9 points in Florida among likely voters over Donald Trump.  The breakdown is as follows—

                                                  Hillary Clinton       48%

                                                  Donald Trump       39%

                                                  Gary Johnson           6%

                                                  Jill Stein                     1%

                                                  Undecided                5%

Clinton enjoys a massive 50 point advantage among non-white voters.  Trumps holds a much smaller 14 point lead among white voters.   Here is the link to the details of the poll …www.monmouth.edu/…

As a life long resident of Miami,  I don’t see Trump pulling this out.  While Trump will continue to get support from old white retirees in the hinterlands,  his disadvantages among voters of color and young people in the most populous counties,  particularly Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach,  will plague him.  Florida is slowly trending from a purple state to a blue state at the presidential level.  Miami-Dade was one of the few areas of the country where President Obama expanded his vote plurality from 2008 to 2012...nearly a 70,000 vote increase.  This trend will continue.  Cuban-Americans are no longer as overwhelmingly Republican as in the past.  Romney and Obama essentially split their vote in 2012 with a slight lean towards Romney.  This election,  the lean will be towards Clinton.  This, along with large increases of Puerto Ricans in Central Florida (who vote overwhelmingly Democratic) will make Florida blue at the presidential level….at the state level, sadly, we still have a lot of work to do….
