Got a call from the Hillary Victory Fund just now. Donated some, which will be tripled by matching funds from other PACs. I grilled the poor guy, wanting him to read nice and slowly the small print he was required to read that explained how the funds will be distributed, etc. (Ran him out of breath, bless his heart.) I had him explain to me what it meant, and got the gist that donations are split up by a pre-determined formula, etc. etc.
Now, I know there’s a lot of heartburn about how the states, including mine, kind of laundered (my word) money during the primary by accepting donations for the Victory Fund and then giving them back to the DNC. Not sure where that stands now, but whatever, I’ve moved on and am donating in state and everywhere I can. I’m still a Bernie fan, and this means, to me, supporting Hillary and the Democrats with everything I have right now.
But the shocker was this guy’s gratitude when I actually said yes, I’d donate. He did not try to press me for more (well he asked if I’d round up so the tripled amount came to an even number), he just thanked me sincerely and said it can get discouraging because:
ONLY 2% OF DEMOCRATS DONATE.
Can this be true? Is there something we can do here to up that? A little goes a long way.
