The Emptying of the Bleachers: Yes, Sanders' backers did walk out early on the JJ Dinner

One of the things that certain Sanders supporters have told me over and over is that it's a lie that many if not most of the Sanders people walked out of the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner once their guy had finished speaking, choosing not to stick around and talk to the local folk and local Democrats to learn what was important to them..

Here is a story by Jennifer Jacobs from the Des Moines Register on the dinner:

The most striking thing about the dinner was the way Sanders’ bleachers began to empty as soon as the Vermont U.S. senator’s speech ended — and before O’Malley or Clinton had spoken, said John Deeth, an Iowa City Democrat who blogs about Iowa politics.

“Despite Sanders' growth, it's still very, very likely that Hillary Clinton will be the nominee. How will the Sanders people deal with the disappointment?” Deeth told the Register. “Will they walk out next fall?”
Of the Sanders fans who stayed, some talked loudly throughout Clinton’s speech, sometimes calling out harsh commentary for the benefit of reporters assigned to nearby seats.

And there you have it.  Parachute in, treat the Democratic event with ill-disguised contempt, then leave without any meaningful interaction with the people whose support your candidate is supposed to be courting.  But hey, they're not progressives, so it's okay to do that to them, eh?

Granted, many Bernie backers aren't Democrats and are proud of this fact, but showing such obvious disdain for Democrats and their party functions is, well, not exactly good politics.
